Cost projections for the project, which would destroy or irreparably damage 108 ancient woodlands, are reported to have risen to £106bn and the Government is expected to make a decision about its viability in February.

A police officer from Hampshire Police Marine Support Unit pushes a female activist from HS2 Rebellion from the river Colne where she had been trying to hinder the destruction of an ancient mature alder tree in connection with works for the HS2 high-speed rail link in Denham Country Park. A large policing operation involving the Metropolitan Police, Thames Valley Police, City of London Police and Hampshire Police as well as the National Eviction Team was put in place to enable HS2 to remove the tree.

A Metropolitan Police officer pushed back an activist blocking the road in front of a vehicle outside ExCel London on the sixth day of Stop The Arms Fair protests against DSEI, the world’s largest arms fair. The sixth day of protests was billed as a Festival of Resistance and included performances, entertainment for children and workshops as well as activities intended to disrupt deliveries to ExCel London for the arms fair.
