London, UK. 9th April 2019. Huw Merriman, Conservative MP for Bexhill and Battle and an unpaid parliamentary private secretary to Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond, leaves after addressing the People’s Vote rally in Westminster. Earlier today, Merriman, who voted for the Prime Minister’s Brexit deal, claimed that Government whips had advised him that he was likely to be sacked or asked to resign if he spoke in favour of a People’s Vote at the rally.
