Quainton, UK. 26th April, 2021. Stop HS2 activists occupy one of three mature oak trees on Quainton Road which HS2 intends to fell in order to construct a temporary access road. Coombes Forestry tree surgeons contracted by HS2 Ltd are unable to carry out any tree felling work for the entire day as a result, but remove a section of hedgerow following liaison regarding the presence of birds' nests between an ecologist from Thomson and an activist (trees and hedgerows are being removed for HS2 during the nesting season). The activist was advised that only a horizontal slice on the rear of the hedgerow would be removed initially but the entire section of hedgerow is quickly removed once she walks away. Activists continue to oppose the controversial HS2 infrastructure project from a series of protection camps along its Phase 1 route between London and Birmingham.
