London, UK. 24 January, 2020. Activists attend a candlelit vigil outside the Brazilian embassy hosted by the London Mining Network to mark the first anniversary of the Brumadinho mining disaster when a wave of toxic sludge from a dam containing waste from an iron ore mine resulted in 272 deaths and 14 people missing. Brazil's largest mining company, Vale, which has links to UK multinational mining company BHP, had ignored warnings about the dam.
