69 images Created 7 Oct 2019

London, UK. 7 October, 2019. Thousands of climate activists from Extinction Rebellion blockade multiple sites around London including Embankment, Westminster Bridge, Lambeth Bridge, Trafalgar Square and Smithfield meat market as well as numerous roads around Westminster on the first day of International Rebellion protests to demand a government declaration of a climate and ecological emergency, a commitment to halting biodiversity loss and net zero carbon emissions by 2025 and for the government to create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice. Extinction Rebellion plans to shut down central London for two weeks. Hundreds of police officers have been deployed to the climate protests, including many from the Metropolitan Police's Territorial Support Group, and quicker and more forceful tactics are being used than for the previous International Rebellion in April.
